Time for a Change with a New Car

by | Jul 21, 2014 | Business & Society

India currently is in the process of mass development, with new super highways, motor ways and roads being made all over the country to connect all of India. With a massively expanding population and a booming economy, India is putting the building blocks in place for a new “middle class” of its people. This class is finding extra income and this extra money is being spent on luxury items, like new cars and smart technology. In this time of economic boom, new cars launching in India is at an all-time high and at the same time, automobile manufacturers are recognizing this arguably emerged market.

Here’s a few examples of these new automobiles aimed at a new financially stable Indian middle class:

Tata Zest –

• Price – 5 to 7 lakh IRS

• Revotron 1.2T petrol engine or the 1.3L Quadrajet diesel engine

• 5 – Speed Manual Transmission

• 5 Door

• 2 Wheel drive

Volkswagen Polo Facelift –

• Price – 6 to 8 lakh IRS

• 1.0-litre turbo petrol or the 1.4-litre diesel engine

• 5 – speed manual transmission

• 5 door

• 2 wheel drive

Honda Mobilio –

Price – 6 to 9 lakh IRS

• 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine unit or the 1.5-litre turbocharged Earth Dreams diesel

• 5 – speed manual transmission

• 5 door

• 2 wheel drive

Now don’t let the specs of the cars fool you, they are different vehicles offering different things. The idea of the comparison of the main features of a car is to showcase the point in which the new cars launching in India are mostly market fillers. These vehicles leave not much to guess for, or to be excited about. They simply are an off the shelf car fit for any family.

That’s the point of these cars, to be “fit for any family”. The new middle classes, as the same in any country which has a predominant middle class, is that they can spend their extra wealth on their family. These run of the mill cars do not appear to be the same as the last. To a new family, these vehicles mean safety on the road, security, something to be proud of and most importantly a comfortable way to move your family.

So whether it’s a brand new off the line Tata Zest, or even a 5 years old Citroen Picasso, family cars are where the money is made in the automobile industry. This is especially true in new emerged markets like the one currently in India.
